Medicare

There are a number of ways you can access fee support to help cover part or all of your session fees for our psychology service. Below we have summarised the different ways you may be able to access financial assistance.

Our psychologists are registered Medicare Providers.

The two main Medicare plans people use to access rebates are:

  • Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) &

  • Chronic Disease Management Plan

Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP)

A MHCP is a rebate program for people with a mental health condition which allows up to 10 rebated sessions with a psychologist per calendar year.  This covers face-to-face session both in office and out of office (i.e home). Eligibility for this service is determined by your GP or paediatrician. Your referral details will be entered into our system during intake along with your payment details.  When you make payment at the time of your session, we will submit your rebate to Medicare on your behalf and you will usually be rebated by Medicare later that day or overnight. Please note that it is not possible to charge you the gap between our fees and the Medicare rebate. It is a requirement of Medicare that your account must be paid in full by you before being rebated.

Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDM)

A CDM plan is a rebate program for people who have a chronic medical condition.  Eligibility for this program is determined by your GP and will allow you to access up to 5 rebates per calendar year with an allied health professional (such as an Occupational Therapist and Psychologist). You only get 5 in total and not 5 per allied health professional so if you use 1 rebate to see an Occupational Therapist you will only have 4 left to see a Psychologist or Speech Therapist.

Private Health Insurance

United Minds welcomes people who would like to fund sessions using their Private Health insurance.  We recommend contacting your Private Health Insurer to find out if your insurance covers psychological support and what your rebate will be.  We will supply you with a receipt at the end of your session to claim your rebate with your insurer.
